Esperanza Rising - Las Guayabas (pg. 58-80)

Here is a place where you can post your questions about the novel, your predictions, whether or not your prediction is correct, your observations about the characters, the challenges the characters face, or "AH HAH!" moments you have as you read the chapter Las Guayabas (chapter 4).

Make sure you include the page number you are talking about in your post. Enjoy!!

Remember, this discussion is for Las Guayabas ONLY! Do not post vocabulary here or chapter 5 material here either. We don't want to spoil the book for anyone!

Ch. 3 Example Post from Mrs. Perry:

I shared with you my first "AH HAH!" moment when we met in literature circles and talked about how Esperanza did not understand that the clothes from the poor box were for her (page 52). She'd always had a life of wealth, and now she and her mother are poor just like their former servants. In fact, Esperanza and Mama actually owe Miguel's family for helping them escape her ruthless uncles.

This made me think about how hard it is to adapt to change. I wonder: How will Esperanza cope with being poor?

I also am interested in finding out how Esperanza will react when it finally sinks in that she and Mama owe Miguel's family for helping them.

What a great start! I really like how Drew gave us a reason from the text for his prediction. Hope all went well today with the substitute! I'll see you tomorrow!
